Special Note: Information about registering for a class and Our Schedule
You can either download our schedule, or click on the schedule tab above. Pre-registration is for your convenience only. Our classes are ongoing and you
can show up for class and register in person.
What Should I Expect?
Most yoga classes are an hour to an hour and a half. They usually begin with a centering and breath awareness. The bulk of the class consists of asana, or postures, which can vary in types of postures and intensity depending on the theme of the class and the level. Finally, at the end of class there is sometimes pranayama, or breathwork, and always a long relaxation, along with a meditation or centering to take in deeply the experience of the practice. If it is your first time to a class it's a good idea to arrive early and introduce yourself to the teacher as well as let him/her know if you have any medical considerations or therapeutic needs.
What Do I Need To Bring?
• a sticky mat (we have extra mats for you to use, however we recommend purchasing your own mat.)
We carry mats in our retail store.
• clothing in which you can move freely
• optional blanket, block, and strap (we also carry these, however you may want to invest in your own so you can enjoy a home practice as well)
• water (we carry bottled water for sale at the studio)
How Do I Sign Up For A Class ?
Most of our classes do not require pre-sign up registration. Please consult the schedule for pre-sign up classes such as buddha babies, incredible infants and the 3-week progressive beginner class. Come a few minutes early before your class to fill out a new student form, then come into your first class!
Is Yoga For Me?
Yoga is for everyone! You can be a word class athlete, a full-time mom or an office worker - yoga can make your muscles stronger and your joints more limber. Meditation should make your mind calmer and more focused. There are many different types of yoga classes: some are slower-paced and more meditative, while some are extremely vigorous and physically challenging, so you are definitely going to find the right one for you.
What Do I Wear To A Yoga Class?
Wear loose or form-fitting comfortable clothing. Natural fabrics, like cotton, are preferable, as your skin doesn't breathe well under lycra. This is especially important if you sweat a lot. Yoga pants or shorts are a great idea. . Last thing: be prepared to take your shoes and socks off.
How Often Should I Practice?
Practice can be daily, or once a week. Ideally we say there is never too much yoga. Like with everything else, the more you practice yoga and meditation, the more progress you can expect. Even if you can devote very little time to yoga, make sure to make it a regular practice. However if you do practice more than once a week, you will continue to be stretched out and not have to start from scratch every time you practice.
Will Yoga Help Me Lose Weight?
That depends on the type of yoga you are doing and how frequently. Very vigorous types of yoga practice are cardiovascular exercise and may help you lose weight if done regularly, along with proper diet changes. Practicing any type of yoga will build strength, and can help you to tone and lose weight.
What Are The Benefits of Private Instruction?
Chad and Kathy are both available for Private Instruction. During a private, we will discuss and evaluate what you need: if there are any specific injuries you are working with or areas you would like to focus on. We can schedule your private yoga instruction whenever it's convenient for you. The teacher can explain to you how to deepen certain poses, which techniques to use for meditation and how to breathe properly. Chad and Kathy have been trained by John Friend in yoga therapeutics (similar to physical therapy, with yoga as the tool) using the Universal Principles o Alignment™ to promote maximum range of motion and optimal blood flow and healing in the body. In a private session, you may also receive physical adjustments which helps you to go deeper into the pose. We can also schedule semi-private lessons if you would like to share the private lesson with a friend or family member(s). Please contact the studio to schedule your appointment. See our website relating to Anusara Yoga Therapy.
More Tips and Policies:
• Do not practice yoga for 3 hours after r a heavy meal, or 1 hour after a snack.
• Turn off your cell phone during class.
• In a studio environment, it is customary to remove your shoes before entering the studio.
• Sticky mats work the best with bare feet, so remove your socks.
• Refrain from wearing heavy fragrances, as it can be distracting or irritating to other students.
Inform your teacher about any injuries before class begins. This is the only way for the teacher to know how to adjust you and give modifications
Practice on an empty stomach. To ensure to get all of the benefits of your yoga practice, we recommend that you refrain from eating 3 hours before class time. Also, try not to drink water during class. This will maintain the internal heat of your body as well as keep the asana room clear of bottles. Drink plenty of room temperature water after class.
Please be on time. Arriving a few minutes early to class gives you the opportunity to meditate or stretch and prepare yourself for your class. Speak softly out of respect to all those in the center. If you arrive late, please wait to enter the asana room until after meditation/chanting. The teacher will help you find a space. If you must leave early, do so before savasana so as not to disturb your fellow students.
Please sign the sign in book, and print in every time. Please make this apart of your practice. Print in legibly as to ensure that we get an accurate count of all students. This is how your teacher is paid.
Attend only the level of class recommended. To honor everyone's path in yoga we ask that you only attend an open class if you have an on-going, consistent practice or by permission of the teacher. Although we appreciate your desire to progress, it can be dangerous to yourself and your fellow students. Please respect your guests as well. If they are new to yoga, take them to a basics class. It will be good for both of you.
Cleanliness is divine. Respect your body temple and those around you. Not everyone believes in that "natural scent". This includes your yoga mat. Wash them regularly with hot, soapy water.
• If your child is sick to attend class, we ask that you please leave your child at home.
• Yogawerks Scholarship fund: provides financial assistance to deserving students based on interest and need. To apply, please call or stop by the studio.
• Refunds and Cancellations: We understand that circumstances can arise causing a change of your plans. While we sympathize when such a situation occurs, we must adhere to a business policy. All changes and cancellations are subject to a service charge. All workshop registrations must be accompanied by payment in full. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as workshops fill up quickly! Workshop cancellations must be received 48 hours before a workshop takes place to receive a refund.
